Mailing Lists: Wordpress Jetpack vs Sendinblue Print

  • 0

Features of both
1) Both use their own SMTP server, so delivery isn’t a local (Earthclick) mail server
2) Subscribers are kept on the remote server, not on the website, which reduces server/website overhead

The pros of using Sendinblue
1) Extremely flexible event-driven using javascript, so site overhead is reduced
2) They provide SMS too, at about $0.014 per SMS
3) It’s a service similar to Mailchimp — campaigns, multiple (targeted) lists, etc.
4) You can send notices to your subscribers directly from Sendinblue rather than from the website.
5) White label with paid service

The cons of Sendinblue
1) Costs could add up.
2) Implementation is fairly technical, so it’ll be more costly unless I can get some cookbook assistance from them.

The pros of using Wordpress
1) A simpler implementation, although it still requires a plugin to work (Jetpack subscriptions) and a Wordpress.com account

The cons of using Wordpress
1) It uses Jetpack (subscriptions), which has been a problematic plugin for me in the past. Some people love it. Some people hate it.
2) Subscriptions are granular (Immediate, Daily, Weekly), but the process involves secondary management of the subscription through Wordpress.com
3) Not white label
4) No SMS
