Getting Started with your Wordpress website Print

Welcome to your new Wordpress Website. We hope you find it useful and beneficial.

Getting Started - your administrator password

You received a welcome letter from the website sent to the email address given to us when you ordered the site. Follow the link to set your new password. We recommend a randomly generated strong password of at last 14 characters, consisting of Upper and Lowercase letters (A-Z, a-z), at least one number (0-9), and at least one special character (!@#$%^&*() etc.). We also recommend that you use a password manager such as LastPass, Enpass, or Dashlane. A password manager will allow you to randomly generate new passwords for every site you visit, save the password, and retrieve it each time you visit the site's login page. We use Enpass here at Earthclick.net, but have also used LastPass. We encourage you to research available software and pick one that works for you.

Your site's login page is at https://{your site name}/wp-admin. If you don't have a password manager, or for some reason your login does not work, you can request a "password reset." Simply click on "Lost your password?" below the login box, enter your administrator userid or email address, and click "Get New Password." This will email you a link -- click the link and follow the prompt to reset your password.

You are the site's administrator, but you may notice another administrator: "wp-admin." Earthclick.net maintains an administrator account for each hosted website. You shouldn't remove or edit this account. In some cases, the wp-admin account owns content on your site, and if you delete it, you may also delete website content. There is a $50 restore charge if you delete Earthclick's "wp-admin" account or change it's password, and no guarantee that deleted content can be recovered or restored. Earthclick.net may need to access your website for maintenance purposes, and deleting the account or changing it's password will hamper or delay access when it's necessary.

Finally, don't share your password with anyone. You have full administrative rights to the website, which means you can modify content, add or delete plugins, add or delete themes, and add, change, or delete users. If you create a user with "administrative" privileges, be aware that the new user can also modify content, add or delete plugins, add or delete themes, and add, change, or delete users, including your administrative account.
